James Bond and Jason Bourne need to step aside. A new spy is on the loose, and she isn’t holding anything back. Clive Lee’s novel, Coral Hare, follows the dangerous missions of WWII, Japanese-American spy, Mina Sakamoto. Mina and her father were there on the fateful day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Mina barely survived the encounter, but her father was not so lucky. Determined to makes his death mean something, Mina devotes herself to the war effort in order to put a stop to the atrocities that are occurring. With her skill in languages, she easily finds a place amongst radio translators, but a job such as this is not what she signed up for. She wants to fight and exact revenge on those who took her father. With this in mind, Mina joins the Office of Strategic Services, a training ground for spies. From this point on, everything is different and her life is in peril. Her journey will take her to the bomb blasted streets of Tokyo, into the heart of the Japanese atomic research labs, and will force her to face some of America’s most brutal enemies.

Clive Lee creates an exciting story with a strong and inspiring heroine in his novel, Coral Hare. I have honestly never read a book that was so action-packed yet still maintained a heartfelt story quite so well. The action scenes are hard-hitting, immersive, and have a bit of quirky humor mixed in to balance out the equation. I liken it to reading a Tarantino film or one of the Lethal Weapon movies as a novelization--lots of explosions, cool weapons, chilling villains, unflinching bravery, and a whole lot of fun. If you are an action junkie, then this book is for you.

However, once you break through the shiny surface of the action-packed storyline, then you see that the author has done an amazing amount of research to write this story. Clive Lee has made a keen effort to be specific with the details of WWII battlegrounds, and he has made it easy and entertaining to educate readers on these facts. While I am not an expert on the era, I can tell that Lee has done everything he can to make this fictional account as accurate a portrayal of the time period as he possibly can, regardless of the over-the-top action and espionage that takes place within the novel. The effect this has on the immersion of the reader is quite impressive. When things got tense, I had to actively remind myself that this was a fictional account, but the poignancy of some moments remained, because I knew that much of this story has been derived from real-life experiences. Whether you are a history buff or looking for the thrills of fast-paced action, Clive Lee’s book, Coral Hare, should definitely find a place on your reading list.

Coral Hare Atomic Agent eBook Clive Lee Reviews

This was surprisingly a quick wonderful read. I didn't think much of it when a friend recommended it to me, but I started reading before bed one night and just couldn't put it down (nvmd the number of cups of coffee I quaffed down at work the next day)! Mina is such a bad-ass. She's sassy and chipper. She knows a dozen languages and more ways to kill a man bare-handed than Rambo. I love that she’s Hawaiian and utilizes her knowledge of sharks. As an action heroine, when she isn’t skulking in the shadows she’s dual wielding Tommy guns while zipping around on ROLLER SKATES. A fun romp through WWII – think of a teenage, female Captain America with a dash of Black Widow, kinda reminds me of “Guns of Navarone” with a touch of superhero. Totally worth your time!
I stumbled upon this little gem as I was looking for something fun and affordable to read on my kindle app. It had a cool cover and the book says the story was inspired by actual events so I figured, what the heck, can't be too bad.

Wow. Mind. Blown.

There is a lot of wit, sass, and soul in the book and the main lead character just rocks! The author wraps a high, action packed fiction story in real historical events, which makes the adventure even more fun. Heck, I actually learned some history reading this, haha. And Mina / Coral Hare is such a cool character. She should totally have her own series!

I hope Clive Lee continues Coral Hare's adventures, I will definitely buy the next one if he writes more!

I hope this gets turned into a movie some day...
An unexpected gem. Fun and entertaining.

The plot centers on a teenage girl recruited by the OSS (the forerunner of the CIA) to go behind enemy lines to stop the Japanese atomic bomb project during World War II. Even though there have been a number of books about Germany’s atomic bomb projects, entries regarding Japan’s efforts during the war are pretty rare. A fun yarn.

Overall, the story is a non-stop, action-packed roller-coaster ride from start to finish. Great action scenes, very vivid, reads with the intensity of a Hollywood blockbuster. Meticulously researched with attention to historical detail. All in all, it’s a visceral, enthralling tale that will please fans of spy thrillers and World War II buffs alike.

Two thumbs up.
Coral Hare is a fast-paced World War II novel that takes the reader behind enemy lines and into the Japanese atomic project. It is about Japan's attempt to construct their own atomic bomb and a young girl's determination to foil their plans. Kind-hearted but ruthless and effective on the battlefield, Mina Sakamoto is an average teenager until certain events cause her to fight in the war. She is pitted against Japan's most brilliant scientists and one of Japan's most skilled and sadistic soldier.

There is plenty of action from the beginning to the end from a shoot-outs to escaping a burning city that is being bombed. The author does a good job at presenting cultural facts and equipment used during the war. However, at times it does seem like there is too much explanation on certain things like the function or description of a weapon which takes a tiny bit away from the flow of the book. There are many characters introduced with small roles, some who seem very interesting but you don't really learn too much about them. The book, overall, has a serious tone to it but incorporates a bit of playfulness (roller skates and machines guns... awesome and effective). Overall, I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good war story.
