I love this series. It has a necromancer and it is humorous, yes, you heard me right! He brings people and animals from the dead and uses them but the book has so many funny bits I would classify this as a comedic fantasy. I love it! He has cancer, no not funny, but he uses meds to keep him alive and he has friends to help him. He also has immortals after him. It is a crazy story and I love it. He is the last necromancer...wow, no pressure.
The narrator is one of my favorite too and I love him. He does all kind of voices so well you would think there is a whole crew doing the voices. The women's voices actually sound like women! He does creepy sounds for other things too and boy is it creepy! Wonderful job!

Dead Red Ghosts Magic Book 2 eBook MR Forbes Reviews
If you are looking for a book that takes you to a place that you have never been to, Dead Red is that book, this story is twisting and exciting and it will transport you to a world that you cannot imagine and yet realize that is current surroundings. Read Dead Red if you dare and see what life can be about outside of the normality of every day living.
Sequels rarely match the quality of their predecessor, let alone surpass them. I loved Dead of Night. I loved Dead Red even more. Conor Night is a complex character, involved in a complex world, and in another complex plot of intrigue, action, and horror - but M.R. Forbes never lets the pace slow down despite the layers that he weaves together. I won't say more than this, for fear of angering the mask... Other than to say that this series would make a great TV show.
I am a Jim Butcher, Simon Green, and Charles Stross reader. I received a suggestion to try M. R. Forbes 'Ghosts & Magic' series from a FB ad prompt and also from a casual acquaintance who reads Sci-Fi and such. As the two came within 48hrs of each other I checked out a free chapter and decided to try a copy. I am delighted I did. The narrative and action is nearly up to the quality of my aforementioned favorites. That and the editing should improve with experience and better attention to detail. As these are early works I went ahead and allowed a 5-star, despite the few places where the pace slips, the narrative glosses over a bit much, or the editing simply missed errors. I expect to see more from M. R. Forbes, improvements and experience are likely to bring this right up to snuff.
Book one set the scene for some very unusual characters. Very unsavory but at the same time very human. Ultimately I could identify with each one of these protagonists and even their antagonists, since there is a lot of grey in life. And by the end I was starting to feel as though something great was in the works. Book two confirmed this. And I cannot wait to read the next installment. If you like X-Men, the TV series Grimm and Supernatural... well then, this is a combination of all these. I hate giving spoilers- so read the free preview.
I gave this book 5 stars because I read the first one and really enjoyed it the jumping around the constant thinking and the fact that the hero and the villain is hard to keep track of one from the other that's all the same guy.
The first book was really good it got me really interested in these books, maybe think about what magic is in a different way.
The second book is even better and finishes off the first book and trust me you'll enjoy it even more the constant gun battles the fighting and the discussion to how changed the world.
Do yourself a favor and read this book it was really really good!
Wow, just finished the 2nd in this series and my favorite thig about this Necromancer series is how the author can come up with a completely new and oh so cool way this Necromancer uses his power and how the character keeps learning and growing in unique ways with unique obstacles. No rehashed formula here, about to get the next one download. Will order the books on this one to reread down the line after I finish the series on my kindle - Michael Bastian
After reading the first book in the series (Dead of Night), I was hooked. Fortunately, the sequel here was ready to go... and I read it immediately following book 1.
If anything, the sequel was better than the first book! (Which is saying something, because that book was really good. ) )
This book creates a certain amount of chaotic closure to everything in the first book. Things aren't as seemingly clear-cut as they were in book 1... forgive me for saying this but "The plot thickens" in book 2. You find yourself - much like the central character, Conor - wondering who the good guys are, and who the baddies really are!
A good, riveting read, and one very much worth having.
